Review of the 2009/2010 Premier League Season So Far
With the 2009/2010 Premier League season well underway, and the Premier League table starting to take shape, it is a good time to review the start of the season.
Not many Fantasy Football managers would have included players such as Brian Jensen, Ryan Shawcross and Stephen Hunt in their fantasy football teams, but these diamonds in the rough have set the fantasy leagues tables alight.
Many Soccer Betting sites installed Chelsea as pre-season title favourites and they have not disappointed winning 4 games out of 4 and Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham and Mark Hughes’ big spending Manchester City also both hold 100% winning records.
Man Utd have followed up their shocking away defeat at Burnley with an emphatic 5-0 away victory at Wigan, followed by another 3 points at home against a decent Arsenal side.
Burnley have been the biggest surprise package so far with two shock wins at Turf Moor against reigning champions Manchester United and Everton, and Stoke City have started well with 7 points from 4 games.
Portsmouth remain rooted to the foot of the table with 4 straight defeats. Losing players such as Niko Kranjcar, Glen Johnson, Sylvain Distin and Peter Crouch during the transfer window and not replacing them with players of the same calibre means that retaining their Premier League status this season may be a bridge too far.
However, it is only September and some teams have only played 3 games. It is therefore difficult to make predictions with any level of certainty. You only have to look back to Hull City’s fantastic start to last season to see that good early season form doesn’t always count for much come the end of May.
Chelsea’s title bid may be impacted by the story that all Soccer News sites have been covering this week regarding the transfer embargo that has been placed on them until January 2011. However Chelsea may have already made their key signings by retaining the services of John Terry and Didier Drogba and look like favourites to win the title as their main challengers Man Utd and Liverpool both look weaker this season after losing Ronaldo and Alonso respectively.
Whatever happens, this is sure to be another fantastic Premier League season, full of highs and lows, so sit back, grab a beer and enjoy the action!
